The focus for Module 1 is to provide you with an introduction to the course, as well as some of the foundational principles in providing psychedelic-assisted therapy, including the Numinus Care Model.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Justify the prioritization of integrative and transformative mental wellness within the context of psychedelic-assisted therapy by
  contrasting it with conventional mental health treatment approaches.
• Describe ethical considerations for psychedelic-assisted therapy that create unique vulnerabilities for persons seeking care.
• Differentiate the outcomes of the psilocybin, MDMA, and Ketamine PAT from a high-level.
• Briefly explain the structure of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
• Explain the impact that The Controlled Drug and Substances Act (Canada) and The Controlled Substances Act (United States)
  had and continue to have on psychedelic research and drug policy.
• Display and embody a common understanding and language around the Numinus therapeutic stance when conducting psychedelic-assisted therapy.
• Explain the role therapists play in the dynamic of creating a safe and supportive space during psychedelic-assisted therapy.
• Define and list challenges and strategies for working safely within the enhanced intimacy of psychedelic-assisted therapy and
  upholding appropriate boundaries.
• Identify a client’s attachment style in order to best strengthen the therapeutic relationship.

In this module, we will begin learning about core competencies for health professionals who deliver psychedelic-assisted therapy. We will focus on therapeutic supportive touch and embodiment-oriented competencies, including embodied inquiry.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Explain the role that psychedelic-assisted therapy plays as a brief intervention within the broader healing journey.
• Describe the ARC of psychedelic-assisted therapy and its components (including therapeutic concepts).
• Develop trust in inner healing intelligence.
• Use language and inquiry that support deepening a patient’s inner experience and innate healing capacity at an introductory level.
• Apply psychological flexibility to acceptance and commitment therapy, ACE model, and internal family systems.
• Apply embodied inquiry techniques to support mindfulness and psychological flexibility.
• Discuss the value of practitioners to have spiritual intelligence, trust, and experience with altered states of consciousness.

Building on what we learned in Module 3, we will begin by focusing on trauma, especially complex trauma, and important competencies and knowledge required for a trauma lens to psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Examine the role of the autonomic nervous system as it relates to trauma case conceptualization and the delivery of care.
• Differentiate between PTSD and other types of trauma.
• Describe and apply trauma-specific skills.
• Identify the framework and spectrum of structural dissociation from primary to tertiary.
• Identify protector parts and lead inquiry into a protector’s core fears.
• Identify strategies to safely and optimally support healing of trauma and to avoid the re-traumatization of clients during and after psychedelic-assisted therapy.
• Explain polyvagal theory and self-regulation as they relate to trauma.
• Differentiate between trauma therapy and other types of therapy.

This module will focus on assessment including how to evaluate a client's eligibility for psychedelic-assisted therapy and how to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Maintain accurate client records and transparently manage financial conflicts of interest to uphold ethical standards and client care duties in psychedelic-assisted therapy.
• Describe ethical considerations in psychedelic-assisted therapy, recognizing historical abuses of power and setting equitable care practices, while defining clear expectations for client outcomes.
• Implement record keeping practices including informed consent, intake forms, and conflicts of interest.
• Evaluate client eligibility for psychedelic-assisted therapy, articulating the facilitator's scope of practice and referral pathways for clients who require specialized services.
• Develop a treatment plan based on a client’s assessment.
• Describe the arc of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
• Develop client-directed safety plans that address strategies for maintaining safety in Medicine Sessions.

In this module, we will be learning about set and setting, preparing clients for challenges during the Medicine Session, music, and other considerations for your Preparation Sessions with clients.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Apply the essentials of psychedelic-assisted therapy Preparation Sessions including intention setting and optimizing set and setting.
• Demonstrate how to assist a client to set therapeutic goals and clear intentions.
• Describe the therapeutic ritual (including intention and goal setting) and why it is supportive in psychedelic-assisted therapy.
• Design 1-2 therapeutic rituals to incorporate in Preparation and subsequent psychedelic-assisted therapy sessions.
• Delineate the difference between psycholytic and psychedelic dose effects.
• Apply appropriate interventions across the spectrum of effects as a result of the ranges between psycholytic and psychedelic doses.
• Demonstrate proficiency in setting appropriate boundaries.
• Describe the considerations needed to conduct preparation and integration sessions via video.
• Discuss the important role that music plays during Medicine Sessions.

This module will focus on navigating Medicine Sessions including working with a co-facilitator and responding to emergencies while under the effects of the medicine.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Apply team-based care including how to work with a co-therapist and allied health professionals.
• Respond appropriately to specific clients’ behaviours and circumstances, such as psychological distress, avoidance, physical reactions.
• Describe the arc of the Medicine Session including logistics prior to ingestion, reviewing appropriate boundaries, the ritual or administering the medicine, what to expect during the session, closing the session, and following up.
• Describe how to work skillfully with music during the Medicine Session.

Learners will participate in a virtual cacao ceremony. Learners will be instructed to order cacao from recommended providers at the beginning of the course so they have it in time for this live session. Learners will also learn about the history of cacao ceremonies as well as its healing potential.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Evaluate the need for expanded research involving BIPOC communities and discuss the contributions of BIPOC researchers and providers through case studies and current research examples.
• Participate in an intersectionality activity to understand how overlapping social identities affect the experiences of individuals in psychedelic-assisted therapy settings.
• Examine historical and contemporary abuses of power in the use of psychedelics.
• Experience a guided group cacao ceremony to learn firsthand about the preparation, dosing, and integration phases of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
• List group agreements focusing on confidentiality, safety, and collective well-being during psychedelic therapy sessions using a first-hand experience

Learners will participate in a group integration session as a follow up to the experiential learning opportunity in the module prior. The remainder of the lesson will focus on group facilitation and important considerations at each phase of the journey.

• Assess client suitability for group therapy sessions, considering individual compatibility with the group format in the context of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
• Create and maintain an optimal set and setting specific to the unique needs of group psychedelic therapy.
• Manage group communications effectively, facilitating positive dynamics and collaboration among participants, especially when multiple facilitators are involved.
• Establish and enforce group agreements focusing on confidentiality, safety, and collective well-being during psychedelic therapy sessions.
• Identify and respond appropriately to individual client needs within the group context, including when to provide additional support or intervention.

In this module, we will look at some key considerations for facilitating Integration Sessions as well as a framework that we recommend employing to empower clients to get the most out of their psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Apply the integration framework to Integration Sessions in order to help clients integrate their psychedelic experiences into their life in the hopes of creating long-term change.
• Assist clients to use trauma-specific and regulation skills when required (outside Window of Tolerance).

This module will focus on how health professionals will learn about burnout, vicarious trauma, transference, and countertransference.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Identify opportunities for personal development.
• Apply appropriate strategies to avoid harming the client-health professional relationship while prioritizing the patient care and self-care in the event of countertransference.
